This accessory is a remote control photography device which uses infrared rays to control the camera from a distance and is particularly useful in such areas as wildlife photography and news coverage. The Wireless Controller LC-2 consists of a transmitter and a receiver and has three modes; the standard mode, the delay mode and the auto sensing mode (activates when an object blocks the light path between the transmitter and the receiver). 10 meter range.
It is two part system with a hand-held control transmitter similar to your TV remote and a receiver that attaches to the camera. The remote can be used in three ways. It can be set so it takes a picture immediately when you press the button. It can also be set so there is a delay of about two seconds after you press the remote. This is especially useful when you take a photo of yourself and want to hide the remote after pressing the button, definitely easier than sprinting into the scene after activating the self-timer on your camera. It can also be set so that when the line of sight between the remote and the receiver is broken, the camera takes a picture. This is great for photos of wildlife or for surveillance. The system has two channels so that two cameras and remotes can be used in the same area without interference. It could also allow you to use one remote to control two separate cameras if you had a second receiver. The receiver mounts in the flash shoe on the camera and has a cord that connects to the remote control socket near the bottom of the Cameras hand grip. The remote system comes with a separate mounting bracket that lets you use the remote if you already have a flash in the hot shoe.
The LC-2 is a 1-stage switch (shutter release only), unlike the LC-3 (or RS-60T3) which is a 2-stage switch (AF and shutter release). Using the LC-2 on the EOS will release the shutter, but cannot initiate AF.
